The benefits of movement and physical acting include range, flexibility, emotional intelligence, and the ability to connect to an audience. Our teachers are industry professionals with extensive experience in theater, film, and television. Sessions are designed to support the individual growth of actors and performers for audition preparation and performance skills. Studio Playground classes and individual coaching sessions are intended for actors, performers, and other professionals to enhance their ability to connect to a group and engage in public speaking, In-person sessions are available in Boston, Providence, and New York City. Studio Playground artistic director Matthew Bretschneider

Matthew Bretschneider

Matthew (he/him) is the artistic director of Studio Playground and an adjunct professor for Boston University. Theater credits include Huntington Theater Company, Kitchen Theatre Company, Boston Playwrights’ Theatre, The Flea, The New Ohio, and Pulse Ensemble. Television credits include Law & Order: SVU and The Path. Matthew focuses on auditions for theater, film, & television.

Stefanie Resnick

Stefanie (she/her) is based in New York City and is an artistic associate for Studio Playground. She has taught for professional theatre companies across the country and for the undergraduate acting program at the University of Nevada, Las Vegas. Theatre credits include Utah Shakespeare Festival, Commonwealth Shakespeare Festival, Shakespeare Theatre of New Jersey, Great River Shakespeare Festival, and the Arts Center of Coastal Carolina. NYC theatre credits include Cherry Lane, TITAN Theatre Company, and NYC Fringe.

Alex Crespo-Rosario

Alex (he/him) is an artistic associate for Studio Playground. Theatre credits include Trinity Rep (Sweeny Toddy, La Broa’, Becky Nurse of Salem), Burbage Theatre Company (Junk, Witch, Our Dear Dead Drug Lord), and Rhode Island Latino Arts (La Mancha). As an active artist, his work focuses on connection and emotional range through theatre and dance.

Christopher Stahl

Christopher (he/they) is an artistic associate for Studio Playground. Theatre credits include Theatre for A New Audience, Williamstown Theatre Festival, Lincoln Center, Ensemble Studio Theatre, White Heron Theatre, Trinity Rep, The Gamm, and Wilbury Theatre Group. TV/Film credits: The Invisible Girl, Revenge of the Green Dragons (produced by Martin Scorsese), Marvelous Mrs. Maisel, Claws.

FAQ’s for Coaching

What are the goals for individual coaching?

Actors and performers work with a coach for a variety of reasons, including audition preparation, continuing elements of training, and developing emotional range and flexibility,

What is the cost?

We offer a sliding scale. The cost varies depending on the instructor. The rate for audition preparation is $75-$110 per hour. There is an additional cost for studio space depending on the venue. Typically the cost for studio space is $30 per hour.

Where do sessions occur?

Sessions occur in Boston, Providence, & NYC. Virtual sessions take place on Zoom. Please note there is an additional fee for studio space for in-person sessions. Sudio spaces include Boston Center for the Arts, AS 220 in Providence, and Simple Studios in NYC.
