Program Description

PAL is an afterschool program for children ages 8-13 offered by Studio Playground and Community Libraries of Providence: Wanskuck Library. Students attend weekly classes as they adapt a children's book into a play using movement and playful improvisation. The program culminates in a public performance at Wanskuck Library.

PAL is entirely free for the community. Registration is required. Space is limited. The program promotes literacy, teaches concepts for self-awareness and social awareness, and introduces skills for the perfoming arts. Classes begin with a warm up and physical acting game as students learn the fundamental concepts of voice, body, and imagination. Let’s laugh, sing, and make a beautiful ruckus! Join Studio Playground for a theater program that empowers students to develop confidence and find their voice within an ensemble.

Each session ends with a public performance. Performances occur at Wanskuck Library on Thursday March 20 at 5pm (Round 1) and Thursday May 15 at 5pm (Round 2).

PAL is funded in part by The City of Providence Department of Art, Culture and Tourism (ACT) and the Board of Directors of Studio Playground.
