Studio Playground Presents: Performing Arts in Libraries (PAL)

We are excited to announce the Performing Arts in Libraries (PAL) Program! PAL is an afterschool program for children ages 5-10 offered by Studio Playground and Community Libraries of Providence: Wanskuck Library. Students participate in weekly classes as they adapt a children's book into a play using movement and playful improvisation. The program culminates in a series of performances at Wanskuck Library.

There will be a public performance at the end of each session. The performance for Session 1 takes place on Thursday March 20 at 5pm. The performance for Session 2 takes place on Thursday May 15 at 5pm. Students are encouraged to arrive by 4:30pm to prepare before the performance.

Learning Objectives:

  • Explore the health benefits of laughter through movement and improvisation

  • Understand the actor’s tools of voice, body, and imagination

  • Adapt a piece of literature into a live performance

  • Engage an audience in narrative storytelling

  • Skills for communication, collaboration, self-awareness, and social awareness
