Studio Playground presents theatrical programs and classes for all ages based in clown and physical acting. We invite you to come as you are and explore the health benefits of laughter through movement, performance, and playful improvisation.

Our classes for actors and movers ages 18+ occur in Boston and Providence. Read more about our upcoming classes at the Boston Center for the Arts.

Our annual summer camp for ages 6-12 occurs in Lincoln Woods State Park in northern Rhode Island in August.

Performers and Creative Team

Stefanie Resnick (Producer; Co-Artistic Director; she/her) is an actor and physical theatre teacher based in New York City. She has taught for professional theatre companies across the country and for the undergraduate acting program at the University of Nevada, Las Vegas. Regional theatre credits include Utah Shakespeare Festival, Commonwealth Shakespeare Festival, Shakespeare Theatre of New Jersey, Great River Shakespeare Festival, and the Arts Center of Coastal Carolina. New York theatre credits include Cherry Lane, TITAN Theatre Company, and NYC Fringe. Stefanie has trained extensively in Clown with master teacher, Christopher Bayes, through the Pandemonium Studio. Education: MFA, UNLV.

Matthew Bretschneider (Producer; Co-Artistic Director; he/him) is an adjunct professor at Rhode Island College where he teaches clown and physical acting. He has trained extensively with Christopher Bayes and has studied physical acting with Norman Taylor, Mary Overlie, David Bridel, Gabriel Levey and many more. He has performed with the Huntington Theatre Company, The Flea Theater, Theatre Row, The New Ohio, Alabama Shakespeare Festival, Kitchen Theatre Company, and Boston Playwrights’ Theatre. Television Credits include Law & Order: SVU and The Path. Matthew received a BFA from NYU’s Tisch School of the Arts and has trained with The Pandemonium Studio, Movement Theater Studio, and The Clown School. Mr. Bretschneider teaches recurring workshops for Trinity Repertory Company, Walnut Hill School for the Arts, and Suffolk University. Matthew founded Studio Playground in 2020 with Co-Artistic Director, Stefanie Resnick.

Anna Basile (Director; she/her) is a Rhode Island artist and educator who creates theatre that is small and mighty. Her work seeks to uncover and elevate the magic in everyday stories and people. She earned her MFA in Devised Performance at the Pig Iron School in Philadelphia and received a BS in theatre at Northwestern University.

Filipa Estrela (Designer; any pronouns) is a crafter, cartoonist, performer, costumer, educator, and storyteller; sometimes all at the same time. They are a queer, gender-fluid, Cape-Verdean/Macanese-Chinese/Portuguese mixed person of color whose creative practice is all about play,  experimentation and blending the everyday with a dose of myth, magic and wonder.

Siobhan Marie Doherty (she/her) is a creativity coach, joy facilitator, and feminist historical comedian. She has a BFA in Theater from NYU.  Her SF Bay Area performing credits include: Magic Theatre, Shotgun Players, SF Mime Troupe, and Killing My Lobster.  Her written work includes Swift History (300 years of American women’s history crammed into a rowdy 20 min powerpoint adventure), and the ongoing series, Feminist Breakfast Party!, an intersectional space in which she joyfully dismantles the patriarchy over waffles. Everyone’s invited!  She can be seen most Saturday mornings at 11am in Kismet Kids at Hope Artiste Village.

Evie Dumont (they/she) originally hails from the woods of Massachusetts. They received her BFA in Acting from Adelphi University and trained at the London Academy of Music and Dramatic Art. You may have seen them in the recent commercial campaigns: Uno Pizzeria “Full On” (Bronze win, Hatch Awards), NOWRX, and Monster.com's national radio ads. Theatre credits include: Irondale’s ONWOMEN Festival (solo work), FASCISTS AND THE PEOPLE WHO KILL THEM (Bridget/Kyle Smith), ANIMAL FARM (Lead Ensemble/Jamil Chokachi), Immersive Lead for the national tour of THE MACALLAN MANOR. Film credit festival selections: THE EXCLUSIVE (International Shorts Film Festival/Kyle Smith, Steve Zuccaro, and myself), PHOSPHENE (Yofifest/Bryan Ribeiro). Represented by Darlene Sweeney at WSM.

Kelly Robertson (she/her) is a New England-based actor who is excited about using play to make safe spaces for all people - both within themselves and in the spaces around them! Kelly graduated with a BA in Acting from Dean College and has since trained with SITI Company and Atlantic Acting School in NYC. Theatre acting credits include shows with The Wilbury Group, Burbage Theatre Company, The Contemporary Theatre Company, RI Devised Theatre Festival, and The Gamm Theatre. Kelly teaches applied drama to disabled adults at Generations: Adult Day Health Center and physical theatre and improv for The Gamm and The Contemporary Theatre Company. Kelly loves to clown, has certifications to be an “Intimacy Captain” for theatre and a teacher of “Drama for People with Autism and Disabilities”, and is the proud founding player of The Toil and Trouble Project - New England’s first old school Shakespeare project to join the nation-wide old school Shakespeare community.
